The Browns add a Veteran QB to their Roster!

Joe Flacco is still playing football and has signed to the Browns active Roster!


Joe Flacco is back in the NFL! Last week Flacco signed with the Browns practice squad and it was reported that he would be elevated to their active roster on Monday after their lost to the Broncos. The 38 year old was originally going to be their number 3 QB behind rookie Dorian Thomas-Robinson and PJ Walker. However, after their disappointing loss to the Broncos on Sunday, they activated Flacco to their roster and there is a chance that he could play this Sunday vs the Rams. The Delaware product worked out for the Browns last Friday and finalized a deal with the Browns last Monday according to reports. The addition of Joe Flacco bolsters the Browns quarterback depth after Deshaun Watson was lost for the season with a shoulder fracture.

The Browns have currently started three quarterbacks this season. Deshaun Watson, Dorian Thomas-Robinson and PJ Walker. The Browns current starter is rookie Dorian Thomas-Robinson. The 24 year old has now started three games for the Browns this season and has gone 1-2. The rookie has thrown 1 Touchdown, 4 interceptions, 429 passing yards and a passer rating of 50.6. The UCLA product was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round and was expected to be their third QB. However, after an injury to Watson in week 3, he started his first game vs the Ravens the next week. Thomas Robinson struggled in his debut and threw 3 interceptions vs Baltimore. After Walker started the next few weeks, Watson returned vs the Ravens and upset their rivals in the final seconds, it was reported that the Clemson product was done for the year with a shoulder injury. Cleveland opted to start Thomas-Robson vs the Steelers in week 11 in which they won. He was not spectacle, but was good enough to get the win and take down their rivals the Steelers 13-10. Thomas-Robinson completed the last four passes on the final drive which set up Dustin Hopkins for the game winning 34 yard field goal. The next week vs the Broncos Thomas-Robinson struggled again and only threw for 134 yards. However, Thomas-Robinson left in the middle of the contest vs the Broncos with a concussion. He is currently in concussion protocol and there is a chance that he will be available vs the Rams on Sunday which could open the door for the Browns to start Flacco on Sunday.



Joe Flacco has been in the League since 2008 and has played for the Ravens, Broncos, Jets and very briefly with the Eagles. The former 2008 first round pick made the Pro-Bowl once and helped the Ravens win their second Super Bowl in franchise history when they beat the 49ers in 2013. With the emergence of Lamar Jackson at QB, Flacco was traded to the Broncos for a fourth round pick. In 2020, he signed with the Jets after the Broncos released him because of a neck injury that cut his 2019 season short. He played for the Jets from 2020 until 2022 and was also traded back to New York in 2021 when the Eagles signed backup QB Gardner Minshew from the Jags. Flacco last win came in 2022 when he helped the Jets come back to beat the Browns in the final seconds. For his career, Flacco has thrown for 42,320 yards, 232 yards and 147 interceptions. He also has a Passer Rating of 84.0 and a completion rating of 61.6. In his last win vs his new team the Browns, Flacco threw four TD`s as the Jets came back in the final minutes to shock the Browns.

Joe Flacco has been looking for a new team this entire season. Flacco is still confident that he can play. He is also very confident that he can still play at a high level. There have been rumors that Flacco was not playing and team were still interested in the 38 year old QB. The Jets had been one of those teams that were rumored to sing Flacco after Rodgers went down and Zach Wilson had played very poorly. Another team that had interest in Flacco was the Colts. Their top pick in the first round Anthony Richardson went down with a shoulder injury vs the Titans that ruled him out for the reminder of the season. Even if Flacco does not play this week, the Browns will most likely have him play sometime this season because of the injuries to Watson and Thomas-Robinson.
