Travis Hunter is out for at least 3 weeks!
As Colorado gets ready to take on their two toughest opponents in Oregon and USC, they will do it without their two-way superstar, Travis Hunter! Hunter sustained an injury last week in their win vs Colorado state. Hunter, who plays both WR/CB, sustained an injury to his ribs after he was hit by Colorado State’s Henry Blackburn. Sheudor Sanders tried to throw to Travis Hunter; it ended up being an incomplete pass. After the play was over, Blackburn hit Hunter which he ended up being called for unnecessary roughness. The 20 year old ended up playing the rest of the first half, but then left for the hospital before the third quarter. According to reports, Hunter suffered a lacerated liver and will miss at least three weeks. The Buffalos will play the Ducks, Trojans and the Wildcats the next three games. This season, Hunter has had 9 total tackles, one interception and two pass deflections. On the offensive side, the former number one recruit has had 16 receptions for 213 yards and one score.
Head coach Dion Sanders has this to say regarding Hunter and his injury. "He's at home doing his schoolwork, playing video games and being Travis," "Wonderful man. He can't wait to get back to continue to do what he's capable of doing."
Sanders continued by saying who would be his replacement as Hunter is out for at least three weeks. "The plan at corner is corner by committee," "That's why we practice. We're going to see who steps up and takes over that role."
Hunter was the number one recruit in the 2022 class and originally committed to Florida State. However, he later decommitted and chose Jackson State to unite with Hall of Famer Dion Sanders. After Sanders left for Colorado, he decided to leave for Boulder as well. With Hunter out, the Buffaloes will have their hands full against one of the top offenses in the country. Oregon’s QB Bo Nix is one of the top players in the country and has thrown for 893 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions this season. Nix has also completed 77.6% of his passes during Oregon's 3-0 start and is currently ranked 10th. The Ducks offense is good as well, but they will need to have their best outing this season especially without Hunter.
Dion Sanders continued to praise Hunter and had more to say about his prize player. "There's no one in the country who can fill Travis Hunter's shoes," "You've got to understand he's a unique player, he's one of a kind, he's the best player on offense and the best player on defense. That's just who he is, in the country and not just on this team. So, having guys step up, they've just got to step up and do the job that we're asking them to do."
Before the injury, Hunter along with Sanders were candidates to win the Heisman. Now that Hunter is out, the Buffalos will need to really even more on Shedeur Sanders and the rest of the offense. Colorado will travel to Oregon on Saturday and play the Ducks in Eugene at 2:30 PM Eastern on ABC.
